Today I’m so excited to share with you Jay and Allie’s beautiful garden wedding photos from their wedding at the historic Lace House in Columbia, SC. This wedding day was full of unique elements, including handmade Star Wars cufflinks, Harry Potter wands, matching tattoos, and so much love, romance, simple touches, and happiness.
Jay and Allie met back in 2014 when she moved back home to Columbia after living in Boston for four years. She took a job at EdVenture Children’s Museum, where Jay was the Museum Experiences Manager. After being great friends for years, something just clicked at a good friends party, and they have been inseparable ever since.
Personalized touches- included Star Wars pins on the boutonnieres and lace from Allie’s mother’s wedding veil when she was married in 1982.
For Allie, the most anticipated moment was the first look. The first look was her most emotional moment, especially the moment before she tapped his shoulder.
From Allie, “We had been building up to our wedding day for months. And I knew as soon as I tapped his shoulder that our day would begin, and it would all pass in an instant. All of that emotion and anticipation hit me in that moment, and I couldn’t wait for it all to begin! The most special part of our day was standing in front of him during our ceremony. I remember how his hands felt around mine. And I remember staring in to his eyes and feeling so grateful for him and these moments that we would always remember. ”
From Jay, “Allison and I got engaged on November 3rd at a friends lake house dock as the sun went down over Lake Murray. It was one of our favorite places to go as it was situated on a point and offered nearly 360 degree views of the lake. We had seen the solar eclipse there during the summer with friends and I decided that it would make a private place for a proposal. I had secured the ring weeks earlier, a beautiful Morganite stone in a rose gold setting.
I asked Allison if she would go watch the sunset at the lake and we could grab some picnic items on the way. Of course she agreed and as it was already nearing sunset we hopped in the car and headed to the point.
As I am a bit of a prankster, I had put a few pennies I found in the car in my left pocket. as we sat and talked I would occasionally let one roll out of my pocket along the decking only to slip into the lake below. Of course, Allison being incredibly perceptive began to worry that a proposal might be coming this evening and was becoming more and more anxious about the sound of what could easily be confused for the clinking of a ring falling out of my pocket into the depths of the lake. All part of my plan…I eventually let her off the hook and proposed to her as the last few rays of sun peaked over the watery horizon.
She said yes and we both had a good laugh over the “penny trick.” We spent the next few hours drinking Prosecco and talking about our plans for the future.”
The Lace House grounds created a beautiful, romantic background for their big day. The florals were left left to Carolina Event Services. Carolina Event Services chose hydrangeas, which Allie has always loved, combined with fun accents like blue thistles and greenery.
